DIRECTOR OF DEVELOPMENT
Mission: The Emelin Theatre, located in Mamaroneck, New York, and founded in 1972, is the oldest continuously operating performing arts theater in Westchester County. Its mission is to bring the best in performing arts to audiences drawn from Westchester and other nearby communities. The Emelin, well-known for its high-quality and affordable programs, offers a diverse mix of film, music, theater, dance, children's programming and other entertainment appealing to all ages and tastes.
Basic Function: The Director of Development will manage and coordinate the Emelin Theatre's fundraising efforts and will be responsible for maintaining and increasing support from individuals, corporations, foundations, and other sources. The Director of Development will play a key role in identifying, cultivating, and soliciting major donors for gifts as well as managing membership efforts. The Director of Development will report to the Executive Director of the Emelin and will work closely with the Board President and other Board members.
Responsibilities:
- Plan, administer, and implement all fundraising activities of the Emelin Theatre;
- Manage annual membership;
- Take a leadership role in the identification and solicitation of individual, corporate and foundation contributions;
- Develop annual fundraising plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and the President of the Board;
- Prepare and/or oversee all direct mail letters, case statements, grants, brochures, and sponsorship proposals required to support fundraising efforts in coordination with and under the supervision of the Executive Director;
- Coordinate donor patron receptions, events, and galas in collaboration with key staff members and volunteers;
- Ensure that all donors are appropriately thanked and receive regular communication by making donor stewardship a priority throughout the Emelin Theatre.
Ideal Experience and Qualifications: Candidates should have the following experience and qualifications:
- Ability to work in an hands-on small team environment; computer literacy and knowledge of donor management software would be helpful;
- Ability to effectively gain the respect of support of various constituencies, including board and staff members, donors, and foundation and civic leaders;
- Background in raising funds, particularly in the non-profit sector;
- Adept at planning, prioritizing, multi-tasking, organizing and following through;
- A catalyst who can create excitement and energy around the Emelin's programs and encourage others to support the organization — persuasive, persistent, and determined in the pursuit of the organization's fundraising goals;
- General understanding of the Westchester local area would be valued in a candidate.
Compensation and Hours: Substantial part time position with compensation commensurate with experience.
